02 October Artist Bio - Oliver James Hymans
Oliver James Hymans was awarded First Class BA Honours in Geography from the University of Nottingham and an MA Scenography from Central St. Martins. Both his academic research and practical endeavours explore psycho geography and the realm of immersive and sensory scenographic space. Oliver’s work continually blurs the boundaries of the role of scenographer as director, performer, designer and writer.
In the past year Oliver has written and directed ‘Jack in the Box’, Cochrane Theatre -London; created and performed in ‘To Moscow’, at Nolia’s Gallery - London; recently he spent three months in India designing and assisting the direction of ‘The Legends of Khasak’, performed in Tricchur, Kerala.
Oliver has also been involved in making visual and sensory theatre for and with children. Recent works include Roald Dahl’s ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ Nottingham’s Lakeside Arts Centre 2004 and ‘The Shoe Story’, a total-theatre piece for children premiered at the 2005 Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
Oliver is currently working for the London-based theatre company, Station House Opera, on ‘The Other is You’, to be performed in early November at The Basement, Brighton.
